The Laser Sentinel standalone scanner provides a complete application-oriented solution based on the safe monitoring of a two-dimensional area, including all functions needed for static horizontal and vertical applications (such as robot cells, machine perimeter protection, machine opening protections, etc.), as well as dynamic applications (automated guided vehicles, automated guided carts and forklifts) in a compact device with high level detection performances.

The Laser Sentinel has very high detection capabilities. It can manage up to three simultaneous areas that can be configured as warning or safety areas, with an angular resolution of 0.1°. A safety area can reach 5.5 m over an angle of 275°; a warning area can reach up to 40 m.

Up to 4 Laser Sentinel units can be easily connected to each other through Ethernet-based safe communication bus. Only the Master receives power, has inputs and outputs onboard, and holds the memory of the configuration of the entire system. The Slaves are connected to the Master with a single cable that also provides them with power. The synchronization of the four scanners is an integrated function; there is no need for external control units.

In addition to its safe functionality, the Laser Sentinel measures the distance of the objects around it, and the data sent over the Ethernet port can be used by the vehicle control system for direct navigation or by the machine in order to check the correctness of the production process.

The Laser Sentinel can be configured to mute an area of variable size and position, depending on the working phase of the machine. Muting activation is done by muting sensors which are activated by the approaching load that will be entering or exiting the unsafe area.
